Confused...

...I most certainly am!!!

Anyone who visits on a regular basis will know that I'm not very techy - in fact it's a wonder that I ever managed to create a blog; but anyway...

Out of the blue I get an email from Virgin (my service provider) telling me that from 5 June my "blueyonder" email address will no longer allow me to access Google...EEEK!

It also tells me that I need to create a gmail address (if I haven't got an alternative email) in order to continue being able to access my Google accounts...PANIC!

The kind (???) folk at Virgin provided a link to a video to help people carry out the necessary changes - they had to be joking right? The woman in the video was rabbiting at such a rate of knots that you would be hard-pushed to even understand what she was saying let alone follow the instructions. So I resorted to emailing a cry for help to Weasel.

The lovely Suzie (Weaselwise) despairs at my feeble attempts to do anything more than the basics when it comes to anything techy. However, she is very patient and has come to the rescue on a number of occasions...she didn't fail me. Bless her.

Back came a detailed but suitably "Toni-fied" email for me to follow.

Even so, it took me a day to build up the courage to venture into the Google gmail set-up LOL

Between Suzie's instructions and the on-line guidance I got as far as creating a gmail address. So far, so good. However, there seemed to be some significant things that weren't covered on the screen, the most important of which was setting the password!!!

The result being...

Back at the sign-in screen it tells me that it doesn't recognise my password with the new addy but if I type in my old blueyonder addy it loads my gmail account - if you are still following & understand this you are more IT savvy than I am.

I've checked the new gmail address and I've managed to set up the email - and it works - Whoop-whoop. However, this password problem just doesn't make sense to me.

To compound matters, I've spoken to other folk with blueyonder email addresses and they haven't had any contact from Virgin advising them of the need to change anything to continue accessing Google.

So Blogland folk, I now have two email addresses (lucky me) but am no nearer to understanding the "whats, whys or hows". It also doesn't help much to find that the Google guidance also informs me that I can continue to access my Google accounts with my 'old' email address which now shows as my "secondary" or "recovery" address...

Confused?

I know I am................................................................................

I'm sure sometimes they make things more difficult than they need be

Yikes! I completely understand your frustration. Why or why do they have to make things so hard? Computers are wonderful until they're not!
