Unfortunately...

...the trees have got to go.

When we first moved into the house there was a privet hedge across the garden that acted as a screen. The garage & cars were the other side of the hedge so the view from the house was of a lovely green wall. However, at over 10ft tall the privet was a major task to keep trimmed so after a lot of umming & arring it went.

There was a small tree between the hedge and the garage and we left it as it provided a bit of screening so we weren't gazing at the rendered wall of the garage. Over the years it has grown...
...and is in fact two trees. They create a lovely canopy in the corner...
...and help to hide the garage...
...they are also beautiful to look up through...
...especially as that direction is where the sun sets...

...you can see the glow through the leaves.

I love trees and hate to see them cut down...
...but the trunks have increased in girth and are now pressing on the garage wall...
...so a hard decision has had to be taken...
...and the trees have got to come down...
...and they will leave such a gap when they are gone. So I had to get out and take as many photos as I could.

I know they have to go as they are damaging the garage (there is already a very big crack in the wall) but the garden will seem so empty without them.

I will have to think of something that is fairly low maintenance that can safely be used as a 'growing' screen of some sort...............................................................

one major reason we NEVER planted any trees. my neighbor to my right has 1 tree and i'm ALWAYS getting branches and twigs when it's windy; my neighbor behind me has a huge pine tree at which i get to pick up pine cones; my neighbor to my left has no trees other than 1 apple tree which is at the other end away from my house. my house gets VERY HOT in the summer without any shade. hopefully, next summer i can buy a nice sized patio umbrella as i've not enough roof for an awning!

have a great week.... we're heading into fall! o yeah!!!!

hugs :)

Hi Toni, you should get the parcel Thursday,I think. Pretty sure it was 48 hours, but he siad it wouldn't get collected until today. Thats the trouble with trees, isn't it? How about something like a Buddleia? It will attract bees & butterflies, there is a range of purples as well as white, and best of all, you can chop them back really hard at the end of each season to keep them under control. We have an old one in our garden, we've been here 18 years, and it was here for 10 or more years before that! It's trunk is still no more than about a foot round, and every few years we cut it back to the trunk, and it just shoots out again. Hugs, Shaz xx
