Colouring effects...

..."grounding" the image.

I'm sure you will have noticed that although I often cut-out my coloured images for mounting on my cards - I normally make sure that there is an area of shadow somewhere to give the image a bit of depth. This might just be a faint edging of gray around the image or a 'pool' of shadow that the image is sitting/standing in. Last night I had a bit of a play as I wasn't in a 'crafting mood'.
I've seen some folk create quite a large area of shadow behind their image so I thought I'd give it a go. Armed with BG10 and the colourless blender I had a go with one of my bigger images - the Kenny K digi image I use quite a lot. On the left (as you look at the image) I went straight in with the colour and then used the blender to fade it out, whilst on the right I used the blender first, added a bit of colour whilst still damp and then blended again. I don't think the finished effect was any different when finished but I did find it a little easier to blend the colour out when I had a layer of blender under the colour. On this occasion I didn't make the shadowed area too big as I was playing with the technique but I think it is something I will try again. By the way, the pool of shadow at the feet is created with W-1 & W-3 (warm grays) - no blender just the W-1 used to blend the two shades together.

I was really pleased with the way the hair worked on this one (I must start making a note of the pens I use LOL). I am very much a "grab a pale shade and then start adding" type of girl...which can be very frustrating when something goes well but I can't remember which colours I used to create it.

This is such a fab image for playing with. There is so much scope for trying different colours and shading techniques.
