...especially when they start with a long boring management meeting.
The day had started so nicely...it looked like we were lucky enough to still have the lovely weather that had put in an appearance over the last few days. The sun was bright, the sky was blue and it was lovely and warm. Unfortunately, I didn't get much of a chance to enjoy this lovely morning as I was stuck on the train and then stuck in a windowless meeting room for a very long and oh, so boring monthly meeting of the management team - boy was I glad when it was over...
If the morning was super grotty the afternoon was a complete turnaround.
Back at the end of last October a group of us went to see the Christmas decorations at Harrods (okay, yes...we did a bit of shopping too). We had such a good day we decided we would go back in the spring and it was suggested that we go for 'Afternoon tea'. We have been saving and the table had been booked so off we went for our tea @ three (pm).
We were already on our second plate of sandwiches when I remembered the camera...doh!
Our tables were out on the covered terrace and everything was very nicely set...
Snowy white tablecloths and napkins (real ones - not paper). Real tea with strainers...not a 'bag' in sight LOL and lots of scrummy, yummy goodies.
Here are Sue, Bridget, Jane & Carol shortly after we made a start on the food. There was surprisingly more than we first thought and after the initial 'tuck-in' we slowed down and paced ourselves a bit.
I lost count of how many cups of tea I had but this was the most delish scone with clotted cream & strawberry jam.
One of the items you can't really see in the top pic was the chocolate eclairs - nothing like you would normally get from the baker's...these were quite small and they were filled with chocolate and topped with gold flakes.
I missed the "action" shot of Bridget dropping her fruit tartlet on the table LOL - this was the 'after' shot (after she had put the fruit back into the pastry shell).
Not the cheapest of afternoons but oh it was enjoyable and we all came away completely stuffed. Afternoon tea at Harrods is currently £26 per person (£33 if you also have a glass of champagne) but I have to say...the service was super and we were made to feel very special. We saved for this as it was a planned outing and we all agreed that it was a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. We are even considering doing it again towards the end of the year......................................
